How We Install Sod

  • Our Process

    Installing sod isn’t as simple as unrolling pieces across your lawn. To get long-lasting results, you need a knowledgeable team that puts in the prep to ensure success.

  • Lawn Prep

    First, The Grounds Guys will measure your lawn and work with you to determine the right grass variety for your property. In Montgomery’s hot, subtropical climate, we’ll recommend a warm-season grass that can handle high temperatures and humidity. Next, we’ll prepare your soil. Depending on your landscape, this may mean removing existing grass, weeds, or debris. We’ll then take the extra step of testing your soil pH and making adjustments to ensure it’s the perfect home for your sod. This is also a good opportunity to grade and level your lawn, if needed, to improve your property’s drainage.

  • Sod Installation

    Just before we install your sod, we’ll put down a starter fertilizer to help your grass roots to grow strong from day one. After the fertilizer is in place, it’s time to install the sod. Our local team will lay it down straight, ensuring tight seams between pieces. You won’t notice any wrinkles or bumps. We’ll water your new lawn thoroughly and give you clear aftercare instructions. If you prefer, we can also handle your sod aftercare. In four to six weeks, your sod should be well-established and it’ll be time to transition to regular lawn care. (We can help with that, too.)
