“I needed work done that was, what I consider, on the "small side". Looking to spruce up my yard, I wanted perennials planted around my front of my house to give it some color. I was thinking Tulips and Hyacinths. Scott came out to take a look and give me a quote, and promptly told me that Tulips and Hyacinths would not work, because the locations in my yard where I wanted them planted were too shady (trees). He gave me some ideas, and then he suggested I look at the Wilsons Nursery for more ideas. I found the "Younique Cerise False Spirea". Scott did a photo mockup of what the plants would look like in my front yard, and further suggested a "Bloomerang" Lilac bush to replace a bare spot where we had a tree taken down. Eric came earlier this week to plant approximately 20 Spirea plants, and he was a perfectionist about it. (I told him I was flexible about the placement of the plants, as the weather was really hot and I didn't want him to spend too much time outside on it.) He laughed and said he wanted to get it right, and while he appreciated that I was trying to be flexible, he didn't want to hear it. He and his assistant got all the shrubs planted, and also removed the tree stump where the Bloomerang would go. The Bloomerang is still on order with the nursery but I'm fine with that. My whole experience with the Grounds Guys of McHenry was just the best. The job was not expensive, Scott was great about giving me information and recommendations on the plants and Eric, the owner, did a wonderful job on getting everything planted. I am so pleased with how my front yard looks, and am excited for the Bloomerang to arrive. “I had been having basement water leakage for years, mostly from decades old window wells. Water would pour into the basement, especially during prolonged spring rains. To add to the problem, the house was built before the city had implemented many of the codes now in place, so there was no drainage at the foundation. Eric and crew performed a major drainage installation along two long sides of my home and also installed two new window wells. Much of the drain pipe was 6" and four feet deep. There was also another 50 feet of 4" pipe at 16 inches deep. Eric and his crew performed the work exceptionally well. It resolved the issues at the window wells and now carries much of the downspout water away from the house. I appreciate that the Ground Guys tried to minimize damage to the yard and cleaned up the area where the digging occurred. The area was smoothed and replanted with grass. The Gound Guys even followed up to make repairs to the ground surface when the backfill settled. With every major project, there are unexpected issues that come up. When this occurred, I was very happy with the way Eric would listen to my input and he would also offer solutions, many that were an improvement on mine or a cost savings. We were able to work through all issues in a way that seemed to be equitable to both of us. It was a pleasure working with Eric and the crew. That is sometimes hard to find with contractors. Thank you Eric and the Ground Guys crew for making a difficult and costly project a lot more manageable.”
