My wife and I are homeowners residing in the Hidden Creek community of McKinney, TX. On July 8, 2023, The Grounds Guys of McKinney replaced a major portion of our front lawn with Zoysia Palisades sod, a shade tolerant grass, and one that is less likely to have disease problems. The grass being replaced (St. Augustine) not only suffered damage due to harsh cold temperatures and drought in the past 3 years but was impacted by a fungus. Because of the undesirable appearance of our front lawn due to the aforementioned damages, our HOA issued a time-sensitive maintenance violation. However, prior to the sod installation I think it is important to mention that Mark Tackman, Owner of The Grounds Guys of McKinney, expressed to us that the Bradford Pear tree in our front yard really needed to be trimmed up in order to allow more sunlight for the new sod, and that he would feel uncomfortable installing new sod before the tree was trimmed. The trimming of the tree was done, but it caused a delay in getting the new sod installed, and triggered additional follow-ups by the HOA, and they indicated that no more extensions would be allowed. The next delay was related to the cooler Spring this year. Mark indicated that most people, and probably the HOA’s did not realize the cooler Spring slowed the root development of the sod this year. The slower root development issue impacted the availability of sod, and more importantly, Mark indicated that he was not going to sell us sod with underdeveloped roots. It would be unethical and a waste of our finite financial resources. In closing, at our request Mark Tackman wrote to our HOA explaining the need for the trimming of our Bradford Pear tree prior to sod installation. He was under no obligation to do so, but he did. Mark also wrote to our HOA explaining the delay in getting the sod. Once again, he was not obligated, but he did. The Grounds Guys of McKinney team did a professional job in a timely manner and exhibited a genuine concern for customer satisfaction. I highly recommend The Ground Guys of McKinney.

Mark was very helpful and knowledgeable about what would look best and work best in my flower bed. He found drip line issues I didn’t know were there and fixed them. Highly recommend.

Mark is the kindest person I’ve worked with. He’s not the type of guy to get business from you and call it day. He walked me through the steps needed to get my yard pretty and answered all my questions about maintaining a pretty yard. HIGHLY RECOMMEND The Ground Guys. His crew genuinely love what they do! When they were here last, I went outside to quickly introduce myself and one of the guys said he loved the type of grass I had and asked if me and Mark had a game plan to get my weeds and what not taken care of. that shows me he hires guys who are just as passionate as he is. Him and his crew genuinely care about the work they do. Go with the Ground Guys, you won’t be disappointed

Highly recommend. Mark was a professional from beginning to end. I started with a lake in an area of the back yard every time it rained (grass quit growing under a tree) and desperately needed a French drain. That night, we had a pretty good rain so I got to see how well it worked. He was informative, clear about expectations and possible snags that sometimes happen on jobs and the contract was clear. VERY HAPPY and will use this company again for a project next year.
