  • When you team up with The Grounds Guys of Rapid City for your property’s salting and sanding needs in the winter, we’ll come to your home before the arrival of extreme winter weather to identify where ice could accumulate and create a dangerous situation. Our top priority is your safety, so you can count on us to carefully consider how your family, employees, or other guests will navigate your home or business. We can evaluate every exterior area of your property that’s accessible, including decks and patios. To maintain a safe environment, you can count on us to do the following:

    • Keep entrances, walkways, and driving paths salted and/or sanded
    • Monitor the condition of high-traffic areas to ensure they can be safely accessed
    • Promptly address icy conditions to keep your property accessible, safe, and maintained in winter weather

Salting

Salt (sodium chloride) is applied to driveways, walkways, parking lots, and other areas to lower the freezing point and provide safer conditions. Based on the predicted forecast, we’ll apply salt up to 48 hours in advance of bad weather or immediately following a storm. If ice accumulation is too thick, we might have to use other de-icing methods to address specific areas.

Liquid Salt

Salt brine, or liquid salt, can be used as an anti-icing treatment before a storm arrives. We can also apply liquid salt after plowing to minimize the use of rock salt and prevent black ice from forming. It’s a salt and water mixture, so it may be able to get into spaces that dry salt can’t reach.  

Sanding

Sand can be applied to provide better traction on snow and ice to help create a safer environment for anyone navigating your residential or commercial property. Based on the forecast, we will apply this treatment immediately after a storm passes. Sand is gentler on surfaces than salt and works effectively at any temperature. However, sanding can be messy, resulting in clogged drains in some cases and sand tracked into your home. We’re careful to use an appropriate amount based on weather conditions. If ice accumulation is too thick, we’ll use other effective de-icing methods in these areas.

Salt & Sand Mix

A mixture of salt and sand is highly effective when used to melt ice and provide better traction in certain areas around your home or business. We use a combination of salt and sand during severe winter weather and can apply the treatment before or immediately after a storm passes. Pairing the two together makes a powerful winter tool.
