Gardens are beautiful to look at, but sometimes they can be hard to take care of! It’s important to know how to care for them no matter what the weather is. Each season of the year presents a new set of responsibilities for your garden care. We’ve outlined some of the most notable things to look after in your garden during each season of the year below.
As we said in our Summer Irrigation Tips blog, it is best to water your plants early in the morning during the summer months. This allows water to absorb into the soil before the sun comes out and evaporates the water. Watering is one of the most important things your plants need during the summer.
Fall is the time to fertilize your garden beds. Because the temperature of the air gets a little bit cooler and the temperature of the ground stays warm, fall is an ideal time of year to feed your garden. It is also a good idea to trim plants that have overgrown in the past season.
Winters in the Piedmont area are usually mild. Winter is a great time to add mulch to your landscape. This will provide extra warmth and help keep the ground moist. If temperatures drop below 20 degrees, we recommend covering beds with a tarp.
Spring is the time of year where you should clean out your garden. Get rid of all debris and weeds that may be present in your yard. You should also clean up your plants and add some fertilizer to get them ready to bloom.
